What you need to know when setting up your Shopify store through uAfrica.com:
uAfrica.com has partnered with international eCommerce leaders Shopify to bring eCommerce to Africa, while developing local solutions to make transacting easier and more territory specific. uAfrica.com is 1 of 3 Shopify partners internationally.
Shopify currently powers in excess of 160 000 online stores in 150 different countries, and is a cloud based solution.
This means that you don’t need any server space, or hosting. This is all included in your monthly subscription fees.
You can even plug your domain name into your Shopify store to make your online store your own.
Here is the information you need to get your online store off the ground if your store is in South Africa (only through uAfrica.com):
As the Shopify solution is template based you don't need to have any technical or design experience
to easily create a beautiful online store. Simply choose a stylish template from the Shopify Theme store,
customize your online store, add products and add your payment methods.
Payments and payment gateway
You can even accept credit cards, cheque cards, bitcoin and other payment methods
by signing up for a PayFast account at www.payfast.co.za. PayFast is the only South African payment gateway which integrates into Shopify.
PayFast is accessible to anyone with a South African ID and a proof of residence, and is free to sign up.
They charge on a per transaction basis. You can view their fees at www.payfast.co.za/fees.
In addition to PayFast, you can setup manual payment methods on your store like Bank Deposit, or Snapscan.
Shopify App Store
One of the really powerful aspects of the Shopify platform is the Shopify App Store (http://apps.shopify.com).
Apps allow you to add specific functionality to your Shopify store with ease. Want to list your products on your Facebook page?
Want to list your products on a price comparison engine? Want to integrate with a cloud based point of sale system?
Want to integrate with a cloud based accounting system?
Shipping is one of the most contentious issues surrounding eCommerce in general.
The problem with eCommerce is that there is no silver bullet when it comes to choosing who you want to ship with.
Factors such as price, reliability, network and personal choice will all play a role,
but experiment with a few different couriers to find the one that suits you the best.
Currently eSolutions by DPD Laser (Dawn Wing Couriers) have an app in the Shopify App store
which will allow you to generate shipments from within your Shopify store using your customer’s order information.
Here are a list of some of the courier companies some of our other merchants use:
You would need to get in touch with the courier companies to negotiate rates.
Once you have decided on a courier service and have an idea of shipping rates, you can setup the shipping rates in your Shopify store.
These rates can be based on order weight, order value or province.
At uAfrica.com, we have a close affiliation to bidorbuy.co.za, South Africa’s biggest marketplace.
We have developed an integration called multichannel for your Shopify store, which allows you to link your bidorbuy and Shopify accounts,
so that your products and inventory are synced across both channels. Any Shopify store can install the multichannel product on their store.
